The Big Family of Bumi Siliwangi or commonly abbreviated as KABUMI declared outside Indonesia, but still in the “territory or territorial” Indonesia, which is at the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (Embassy), in the city of Bonn, the capital of the Federal Republic of Germany, on October 1, 1985. Soedijarto propose to the Rector of IKIP (1978-1987) Mr. Prof. H.M. Nu’man Somantri, M.Sc. to establish “Orchestra angklung “and perform it in Germany and other European countries because based on the fact that the people of Europe generally only know Java and Bali dance just as the image of Indonesian culture.
The first time, KABUMI which is a unit of Sundanese arts activities designed to all members family of IKIP Bandung, so called “The Big Family Bumi Siliwangi”. Are entitled to be members of the starting lecture, academic staff and his family can be a member of KABUMI IKIP even out of campus can be a member of KABUMI IKIP.
In 1998, UPI KABUMI listed as part of the <em>”Unit Pelaksana Teknis (UPT)”</em> or Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) Culture of UPI. In accordance with the policy in 2011 Rector UPI KABUMI designated as <em>”Unit Kegiatan Mahasiswa (UKM)” </em>or Student Activity Unit (UKM), so the automatic members of KABUMI should be student only.
As one of the cultural activity units, KABUMI (Keluarga Besar Bumi Siliwangi) of Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) since existence has stage performances of Indonesia as well as the angklung orchestra, nationally as well as internationally. This art and culture activity is a culmination of creativity art achievement, as a conclusion of the learning and teaching process at the campus as vindication of the nation’s consciousness is sustaining and upholding the traditional art and its value within developing and directing art ( culture) is one of the alternatives course of action applied by Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia, consequently such artistic productivity within the UPI academic circle is most encouraging.
